The precast concrete blocks ranging in size from 1 tonne to 4 tonne interlock to create permanent retaining structures that can be rapidly deployed to counter erosion, land slippage and wave energy. The system is ideal for cut and fill installations. Dry stacked constructionThe Gabi® retaining wall system comprises large precast permeable concrete blocks manufactured under stringent quality control.
Construction is mortarless and an experienced crew can place up to 80m2 of wall per day. The blocks are interlocked by a keyjoint precast into the blocks. The rough concrete surface between blocks aids resistance to shearing by increasing the friction between units. |
What is a Gabion?
Rocks in metal cages. The term Gabion comes from the Italian word gabbione meaning “big cage”. Wire mesh baskets are filled with rock in a prescribed manner, the baskets are then laced together to create a structure. These structures are used in civil engineering, road building, foundation construction, soil stabilisation and more. However, over time and under pressure they will become unstable and often disintegrate... they are only as strong as the metal wire holding the baskets together... which often rusts and corrodes under the wet conditions. The Gabi® concrete blocks and mats are the smart solution... they will do all that a gabion basket or cage does however much more efficiently and with 10 times the lifespan, (compare the life span of a piece of wire to a concrete block?), moveable - Gabi® can be moved and rearranged at any time, where as once a gabion basket is placed it will disintergrate under movement,
